My Auto Timelapse Mode
On a recent visit to Positano on the Amalfi coast i was looking for that perfect viewpoint for a potential timelapse or drone shot. I checked google earth and found an amazing looking cliff top view overlooking the town of Positano towards the coastline.
It looked too good to be true! The hiking trail led to a place called Le Tese di Positano, which is 700 meters up on the cliff face right above the main town. Other small towns along the coastline were also visible, such as Praiano to the east.

I was fairly confident i would get a decent shot but not so sure how a timelapse would turn out. I therefore took the Canon R6 with the RF28-70 and the Canon R5 paired with the RF15-35. I also had to the carry the iFootage Gazelle tripod, which being mostly made of carbon fibre, was actually relatively light. We finally managed to get to peak after around 90 minutes of steep trekking, and had a well earned Birra Moretti.
After that it was back to work as the light was fading fast. Setting up the tripod was almost as difficult as the climb as the terrain made it very difficult to maintain a stable position. Eventually, after a bit of jiggery pokery, i managed to set the timelapse up using the iFootage tripod and used the Canon R5 and RF15-35 lens.
Because i was in such a rush i used my programmed customised method for timelapse using Program (AE) saved as a Custom Shooting Mode.

As the daylight started to fade we could see the streets and buildings beginning to light up all along the Amalfi coastline. What a sight it was! I was now starting to feel like all the effort was going to be worth it.

Just a quick note. After sunset we walked back to where we found the church and restaurant. Thankfully the restaurant was still open and we had an amazing meal there. The owner kindly organised a taxi for us to get back to Positano. As there are no direct roads to the center of Positano from the view point, we had to go all the way around the mountains and along the coastline. It took almost an hour and cost 150 Euros.
