Tabuk road trip through NEOM in Saudi Arabia
Things didn’t exactly go according to plan!
It’s September 2020! After months of lockdown, covid restrictions and an international flight ban, we decided to embark on a road trip across north west Saudi Arabia within the regions of Tabuk and Al Madinah. Covering almost 1300 km in 5 days, we would experience some of the challenges of this unforgiving environment.
Our journey began with a two hour flight from King Fahad International Airport in Dammam to Tabuk Regional Airport where we collected our car rental for the trip, a Chevrolet Tahoe, a vehicle that would be severely tested on several occasions.
Throughout the trip we would visit some amazing historical sites, geological wonders and areas of natural beauty. All in a car hopelessly ill equipped to handle the rough environment. Although we didn’t initially plan on any off-road driving, we found ourselves in some tricky situations on several occasions.
